I think that the description of Blackheat as a "suburb" of Rowley Regis is at least misleading and at most wrong.

  1. Rowley, or Rowley Village or even possibly Rowley Regis is an ancient and historic village centred on the church of St Giles.
  2. In no way is Rowley Regis a town.
  3. The village has, from time to time, leant its name to a number of institutions and geographically more or less well-defined regions, most importantly, Rowley Regis Urban District Council.
  4. RRUDC no longer exists though the geographic use of the name continues, especially by the post office.
  5. Unboubtedly, Blackheath lies within any reasonable definition of the region of Rowley Regis.
  6. Undoubtedly, Blackheath is a town.
  7. Therefore, to describe Blackheath as a suburb and Rowley Regis, a town, seems to create a highly misleading impression.

It would be worth-while someone having a go at describing the exact realtionship between Rowley village and Blackheath town (for the unfamiliar, they are barely half a mile apart and you wouldn't be able to tell the join) but I can't put my finger on it. Cutler 22:26, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)

Blackheath in Rowley (Regis)??

[edit]

Modern day Rowley Regis is seen as one of the six towns that make up Sandwell MBC - the others being Oldbury, Smethwick, Tipton, Wednesbury and West Bromwich.

Politically speaking the Wards which make up RR are:

Blackheath, Cradley Heath and Old Hill, Rowley and Tividale.

So these days Blackheath is seen in Rowley Regis.

Yes Blackheath is a town, so is Cradley Heath, Old Hill etc. These all make up one "Super Town" - Rowley Regis - which doesn't really have a centre like the other Sandwell towns - ie. you can easily refer to Oldbury town centre, West Brom town centre etc so it does seem a bit disjointed. To me the town centre of Rowley Regis would be Blackheath.

To me the boundary of Rowley and Blackheath is the Sir Ropert Peel public house - the pub and up the hill = Rowley, below the pub = Blackheath.

No disagreement with any of that. It was the word suburb that I objected to. Please sign posts with four tildes "~~~~" Wikipedia will then insert your name and date details like this: Cutler 11:42, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
