[edit]from article:
- treatment with growth hormone to treat growth hormone deficiency
IMO this and many other therapies would qualify as hormone replacement, because it is indeed a deficiency that is treated. I wonder whether the very specific meaning attributed to "hormone replacement therapy" does really apply only to the estrogen etc thing. Kosebamse 20:45 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)
- I suspect that the term has lost precision as it has become popularized, so that in the mind of the public, "hormone replacement therapy" means "estrogen" (even though that's not even an accurate description of how HRT is actually given, and even if it's not being "replaced"), and that medical use of the term tends to be more precise. Certainly other examples of hormone replacement can be given: Synthroid for thyroid hormones, etc. -- Someone else 20:58 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)
That is exactly what I suspected. So what should be done? It might be a good idea to
- move the "hormone replacement therapy" page to "estrogen therapy" or suchlike,
- list all kinds of hormone treatments here, and
- make the "hormone replacement therapy" page a redirect to one of these.
Other suggestions? Kosebamse 21:04 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)
- I'm not sure the terms estrogen therapy or gender reassignment therapy are ever actually used. So, I kind of thought the idea wasn't to come up with neologisms here, but to discuss the terms in the articles. As it stands (last time I checked), I think someone else has already come up with a nice solution. Putting HRT under this article would be sort of misusing the term and kind of like putting NYC under New York State, you know? There's enough separate, non-linked discussion to fill both, as long as each references the other in some way in case readers ended up at the wrong one. That's my $0.02, anyway. Sure. (BTW, my comment was here before things evolved much further on the other page) IMO someone else´s solution is fine enough and I certainly don´t want to invent any neologisms here. Just wasn´t sure what´s used in English so I attempted to translate my medicalese. Best regards, Kosebamse 22:12 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Better as a disambiguation page
[edit]This looks like a list of therapies with any involvement of any hormone. Better to change it to a disambiguation page ? - Rod57 (talk) 16:58, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Move discussion at Talk:Transgender hormone therapy#Requested move 15 July 2024
[edit]There is currently a discussion related to this article at Talk:Transgender hormone therapy#Requested move 15 July 2024 that editors may want to contribute to. Raladic (talk) 20:25, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
Organization
[edit]@Raladic, you reverted a re-organization of the page with an edit summary that mentions MOS:DABORDER. This is not Wikipedia:Disambiguation page, so DABORDER is irrelevant. Would you like to self-revert now, or do you have another reason why you think it's better to have one long list instead of a list sorted by functional area? WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:53, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Right now as the page stands it looks much more like a DAB than a WP:BROADCONCEPT article and because of that, the order as it has stood already for a long time, is sorted accordingly (which was in line with MOS:DABORDER since all editors understood it as such as the status-quo.
- So, while it's not currently tagged as a DAB, anyone reading it, would understand it as such, and depending on the outcome of the move discussion going on we may very well either tag it as the DAB page as the result, since it already acts as such currently, or actually flesh it out into a real broad concept article.
- So, I think before we'd want to re-organize it in any form, it would first have to really be fleshed out to become such a broad concept article, which in of itself obviously was also part of the reason for the move discussion.
- So I think it's best right now to wait on the outcome of the move discussion since WP:THEREISNORUSH.
- The other argument against the change you made is that the majority of outgoing page navigations per WikiNav flows are to Transgender Hormone Therapy, which means it should be discussed first or second, right after Menopausal Hormone Therapy as the most likely helpful topic of precedence per MOS:SNO rather than an ABC sort of the section headers.
Raladic (talk) 23:15, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- The page was originally assessed as a Stub in 2009, and it has been assessed as a stand-alone list since 2011. This is what it looked like when it was assessed as a List in 2011: a three-sentence lead followed by six sections, each containing a short list. The first section was ==Cancer==.
- WikiTryHardDieHard condensed it into a single list in 2015, under the section heading ==Indications==. Flyer merged in some material from another page in 2018 and changed the section heading to ==Types==.
- Since that edit, it has had a distinctly non-DAB appearance, as it violates at least WP:DABLONGDESC and WP:DABREF, and arguably WP:DABPARTIAL (for some items, e.g., oral contraceptives, which is a type of hormone therapy, but it is not called hormone therapy). I don't know if you have spent much time working on dab pages, but the entries must look something like this:
- Androgen deprivation therapy, hormone therapy for prostate cancer
- (i.e., blue link followed by a brief, uncited description that contains no links) and they absolutely must never look like this:
- Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), also known as menopausal hormone therapy (MHT). is for women are suffering from menopausal symptoms. It is based on the idea that the treatment may prevent discomfort caused by diminished circulating estrogen and progesterone hormones, or in the case of the surgically or prematurely menopausal, that it may prolong life and may reduce incidence of dementia.[1] It involves the use of one or more of a group of medications designed to artificially boost hormone levels. The main types of hormones involved are estrogen, progesterone, or progestins, and sometimes, testosterone. It is often referred to as "treatment" rather than therapy.
- As I don't realistically expect you to believe me that this page does not look like a dab page, I'll request a third opinion from Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:57, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- This is not a disambiguation page, either in it's current organisation or in the superior organisation of this revision. Thryduulf (talk) 00:09, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- To expand on that, I also don't think it should be a disambiguation page - the content here forms a logical set that is not restricted to terms that are called exactly "hormone therapy", it's more list of therapies that involved hormones, and shoehorning that into a dab page format would be a disservice to readers. Thryduulf (talk) 00:20, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- This sounds like a WP:Set index article. Perhaps we should tag it as such with {{Set index article}}? Jähmefyysikko (talk) 04:02, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Jähmefyysikko, this list does not qualify as a set index. The first sentence says: "A set index article (SIA) is a list article about a set of items of a specific type that also share the same (or similar) name."
- This list covers "items of a specific type" but is not restricted to items "that also share the same (or similar) name". For example, this list includes:
- and none of these names are even remotely similar, much less the same. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:13, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

- This is not a disambiguation page, and this should not be a disambiguation page, as these are variations on a theme rather than unrelated concepts. If this page listed things like an album titled Hormone Therapy or a company called Hormone Therapy, Inc., then we would be getting into disambiguation territory. The solution for this page is to make it more clearly a WP:BROADCONCEPT page addressing kinds of therapy that involved the use of hormones. BD2412 T 00:24, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
