- 1813 – Joseph R. Anderson (pictured), owner of American steam locomotive manufacturing company Tredegar Iron Works, is born (d. 1892).
- 1924 – Wilhelm Schmidt, German pioneer of superheated steam for use in locomotives, dies (b. 1858).[1]
- 1925 – A new suspension bridge opens over Niagara Falls, replacing the previous span built in 1855.
- 1969 – Căile Ferate Române, in Romania, completes its systemwide electrification project.
