"Turntablism"
[edit]Turntablism is currently used on Wikipedia to describe techniques such as scratching, which was developed by Grand Wizard Theodore in the early eighties, long before DJ Babu supposedly coined a term for what this article describes as scratching. Hyacinth 03:44, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Babu may not have invented scratching, but he was the first to use the term "turntablist" as a way to describe DJs capable of the more advanced scratching techniques (such as flares) being developed at the time. He believed that the new techniques enabled DJs to use turntables in a more musical fashion, and that "turntablist" was a term that reflected this (i.e people who play pianos are called pianists, people who use turntables as musical instruments are turntablists). --BM2 11:21, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, there really should be a section mentioning the fact that he invented the word "turntablism/turntablist". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.233.126.6 (talk) 08:58, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
