[edit]Anne??? I am under the impression that Annes are women. Or not? Muriel G 15:38, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Not this Anne... should this be moved to Anne, duc de Montmorency? john k 04:33, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
Thompson source
[edit]Can you show me where on page 143 or 151 of the Thompson source that supports;
- "Montmorency was a leading military commander in the French Wars of Religion."
I can not seem to find it. Thanks. --Kansas Bear (talk) 21:29, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- Page 143 shows Montmorency as an active part of the Triumvirate helping to lead the crowns war effort "Montmorency at once proposed to ask the nuncio to petition his holiness to send money and troops to the help of Catholic France" and ""At Catherine's instance (sic) the Triumvirate [of which Montmorency is a primary member] formally invited Spain's support in a joint letter"
- Page 151 furthers this by showing the Constable again leading one of the primary armies "the duke of Guise, the constable, the marshal St Andre and the recreant king of Navarre with the Catholic host - drew near to each other" Sovietblobfish (talk) 09:44, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Further to this the subsequent sentence discusses his leading role at the battle of Dreux, and the sentence beginning the next paragraph discusses his leading role at the battle of Saint Denis in 1567. So it feels fairly uncontroversial to me Sovietblobfish (talk) 10:13, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- I think you might be reading a little too much into it. Page 143, shows Montmorency petitioning the papal nuncio for money and troops, no mention of leading anything. It would be better to stick to what the source states.
- "By 19 April 1562, Catherine de Medici concerned over rising Huguenot influence, summoned the Triumvirate.(Thompson, 143) Upon his arrival Montmorency petitioned the papal nuncio for money and troops.(Thompson, 143) Although at Catherine's insistance, the Triumvirate wrote letter appealing to Philip II for Spanish support.(Thompson, 143)
- "By June 1562, Montmorency and the Triumvirate's army were near Jargeau facing Conde's army.(Thompson, 151) After some strategic maneuvering by both Catholic and Huguenot armies around Orleans and Blois, minor skirmishing broke out while Montmorency engaged in deceptive negotiations.(Thompson, 152-153)"
- What about this? Granted there may be more information concerning Montmorency specifically after pages 152-153, but I was running out of time.--Kansas Bear (talk) 17:17, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- That does work, and certainly provides a lot more flesh and blood. I had intended to go over this article radically in the future, and provide a lot more information about Anne 1559-1567 and was just for now fixing it up in the short term. Sovietblobfish (talk) 18:22, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- I don't think I'm going too far though, perhaps not on the back of that source I chose, as Constable of France his role is definitionally the leader of France's military forces, I could cite instead Holt 2011 pg 52, Holt 2011 pg 65, Wood 2002 pg 11, etc.
- I will add the two paragraphs and let you decide how you want to work the following paragraph. If you need help with anything feel free to ping me or post on my talk page. --Kansas Bear (talk) 22:43, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the offer, I'll make a note of it Sovietblobfish (talk) 22:58, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
