As the source of Sam Gamgee's name
[edit]The Sam Gamgee / cotton wool connection is 100% certain. It appears in one of Tolkien's letters, referring to a letter which was written to him by a descendant of Sampson Gamgee. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.39.26.1 (talk) 14:54, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
There is a reference in The Zero-motor Man: The Amazing Story of John Gamgee, (Steve Humphries, Kindle Edition, retrieved 201612), to "Letter 184 JRR Tolkien’s double worlds and creative process: language and life. A Zettersten, Springer, 2011," where Tolkien relates that after the correspondence with (a different) Mr. Sam Gamgee, he 'had a nagging worry about receiving a letter signed by Mr. Gollum.'DocKrin (talk) 16:37, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
