Well...

[edit]

There doesn't seem to be much response to the shi/si problem around here. I've decided to start doing something about it.

  1. In both standard McCune-Reischauer and North Korean M-R, the city is Sinŭiju.
  2. As mentioned on the KCNA site sometimes, the city is spelt Sinuiju.
  3. Google test. Shinuiju vs. Sinuiju.

I think these are quite sufficient reasons to have the article at Sinuiju. The "Shinŭiju" spelling came from the 1984 - 2000 South Korean M-R system. "Shi" is not standard M-R. (Check the links from Wikipedia's own McCune-Reischauer article.)

Please leave your thoughts here. Thanks!

SAR

[edit]

Is Sinuiju the same as the SAR, or is the SAR close to Sinuiju and named after it? Online sources give conflicting answers. Does anyone know? -- ran (talk) 21:45, Jun 3, 2005 (UTC)

Surely they are different things. I can't imagine the whole Sinuiju city's Korean residents enjoying capitalist privileges. -- KittySaturn 17:39, July 17, 2005 (UTC)
I take that back - they are indeed different things, but the SAR seems to encompass about two-thirds of Sinuiju city plus parts of three other counties. I have now updated the Sinuiju Special Administrative Region article. -- KittySaturn 02:39, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

Sinanju

[edit]

Was this called Sinanju at one time?--Jondel 07:21, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

IPA Pronunciation

[edit]

I'm not familiar with Korean pronunciation, but I noticed the IPA is written as si.nɰi.dzu. Should the syllables match the hanja, such as sin.ɰi.dzu? Perhaps also to include the standard pronunciation of 新 and 州, ɕin.ɰi.t͡ɕu (as per Wiktionary)? Zywxn |  14:59, 22 November 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zywxn (talkcontribs)
