Non-Information
[edit]Can we delete the part about what the song is *not* called in German? (Or maybe explain what that info is relevant to?) It's also unclear why German tradition is particularly relevant in an article about a Swiss song. —Wegesrand (talk) 10:21, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

NY Islanders
[edit]I thinks this information might be more appropriate on the Islander page (if it should be included anywhere on Wikipedia at all). Otherwise, we must include every sporting event and other gathering at which the Chicken Dance is played (In the US, it's a lot of places).D-Rock 16:32, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Bird Dance Lyrics in the UK
[edit]In England we often sing "with a little bit of this and a little bit of that and shake your bum" to the tune of this.
- That's a LOT better than the common American version which goes like "if you wanna be a chicken, if you wanna be a duck, you'd better something something quack quack quack" Cheers.
- Haha, I've heard both in the U.S. (except "butt" instead of "bum"). This conversation is cracking me up. --Galaxiaad 05:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- You also add to the end when you are clapping "Just like your mum" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.141.114.217 (talk) 10:04, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- British people don't call the rear end a "butt" (it is a bum or arse), so I am sceptical of the article's apparent implication that those lyrics are used in the UK! 86.160.127.102 (talk) 18:49, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

Meanwhile, in 1974 in Italy...
[edit]A version of Chicken Dance originated in Italy in 1974 as a synthesizer demonstration piece called "Tchip-Tchip", by Cash And Carry (with Bobby Setter And Co), which was released in the UK on the EMI label (Cat. No. 2125) but wasn't a hit. Ads for the disc featured a cartoon drawing of a duck. The piece is credited to writers "Thomas" (hence, Werner Thomas) plus somebody called "Rendall" who also co-wrote the b-side, titled "Who Needs Money?" Tonythepixel (talk) 13:26, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Contradictions in the History Section
[edit]The History section of the article contradicts itself by giving two accounts of the "first" introduction of the dance into the United States. And two "only" reasons for the name Chicken Dance.
- The dance was introduced in the United States in 1981 during the Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oktoberfest by the Heilbronn Band from Germany. They wanted to demonstrate the dance in costume, but there were no duck costumes available anywhere near Tulsa. At a local television station, however, a chicken costume was available which was donated for use at the festival, giving the "Chicken Dance" its name.
- The dance and song was originally brought from Germany to the US by Eddie Duling and Larry Karhoff of Glandorf Ohio in 1974.
- Despite other claims as to the name "Chicken Dance", the name had come about because an Austrian tour guide translated "Bird Dance / Dance Little Bird" and other similar names, from German to English by calling it "The Chicken Dance"...
- Wikitiki89 (talk) - 14:58, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- For another reference, and probably a very influential one, the Chicken Dance was preformed on the The Lawrence Welk Show episode which may have originally aired on September 18, 1971 "Chicken Dance on Welk Musical Family.com blog". Tchip Tchip
[edit]I'm not sure of the time line, but in 1973 the tune was a hit by Cash and Carry, called Tchip Tchip. See [[1]] NMackay (talk) 13:35, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
It truly does exist. I namely have that 45 rpm single. The song also can be found uploaded to tube with the pictures of the stickers at sight.Noseball (talk) 21:12, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Substantial reorganization
[edit]This page was suffering from "many hands syndrome," with duplicated, redundant, and even mildly contradictory information jubled together in a disordered manner, so i have reorganized it, placed all the material in each section chronological order, and made new sub-heads. I have not added all that much to the article itself, except that i did port over some information and citations from the Bob Kames bio page, and thus was able to remove him from the See Also section. There are still citation problems remaining from the previous versions of the article -- which always happens with popular culture articles, in my experience. Calling out each lapse for a citation is unproductive, so i have retained the previously-inserted citation-needed templates as i found them. - In turn I've cleaned up the sections that had been unsourced since at least February and tagged sections that currently have no sources. DonIago (talk) 02:53, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Very interesting entry! My thanks to all who contributed! 69.117.224.252 (talk) 03:13, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
Origin of the dance
[edit]This version of the article claims that hte origins of the dance are unknown, but the Dutch version of the article contains this paragraph:
which explains that the dance was conceived by Spanish dancer Fernando Reyes for a performance by De Electronicas in the television programme "Op Volle Toeren" on Dutch tv channel TROS. 212.88.247.205 (talk) 17:52, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
